Battle of Strands LIVE: A Review

Last night our team ventured out to our local AMC theatre for a viewing of the LIVE Battle of the Strands finale in Las Vegas! As an event coordinator and sponsor for the event, we were thrilled to finally see everything come to life on the big screen after more than a year of hard work. The finale was two hours long, with the first hour dedicated to the live professional competition and most of second hour to the student competition footage from the previous night.

The work on both sets of teams was phenomenal – it’s not only amazing to see how creative people can be, but the unique ways people translate a theme and vision. The makeup, nails and wardrobe choices were all important pieces of each look but hair was clearly the alpha male, exerting its dominance and upstaging all other elements on the runway.

Here is the student winner:

Isn’t she gorgeous? All of us ladies agreed that her top would be AMAZING for a wedding dress 🙂

In both competitions, the contestants were judged on everything from shape to texture and theme translation to unique flavor. Watching from the comfort of a theater seat with chocolate candy in hand made it easy to pick out our favorites, but I’m sure the judges felt the heat, as it would be so difficult to choose a winner when everybody has gone above and beyond to showcase their talent.

Here are a few photos we (quietly) snapped during our viewing:

And the winner is…

So many of the creations were out of this world, but her hair was that and more. Not to mention, it was mechanical so during her presentation, the gorgeous floral creations that adorned her head were gracefully opening and closing…needless to say, the crowd went wild.

Did you watch #BATTLE2014 in theaters or were you lucky enough to attend live? What was your favorite look?
